Causes of Conflict

In this WebQuest, students will explore the conflict between ancient cultures. They will work in pairs during the research process  and then they will each be responsible for putting together their own individual PowerPoint Presentation. Below are the first steps in starting your project.

Step One

Choose one of the following conflicts: 

1. The Persian Wars 

• The Battle of Marathon
• The Battle of Thermopylae
• The Battle of Salamis
• The Battle of Plataea

2. The Punic Wars

• The First Punic War
• The Second Punic War (The War Against Hannibal)
• The Third Punic War (The Battle of Carthage)

3. The Peloponnesian War

4. The Second Battle of Adrianople

Step Two

Once you have chosen a conflict you will do research using books and the internet to:

• Discover three reasons that explain why the conflict happened (what events or actions caused the conflicts/wars)  AND

• Explain how the conflict could have been avoided

You will also need to provide background on the conflict by providing the following information:

• who was involved in the conflict,
• what the conflict was,
• when the conflict took place, and
• where the conflict took place.

You will work in pairs doing research. This assignment will have special instructions so please make sure you understand this part before proceeding!

Each student is responsible for their own PowerPoint presentations which should contain approximately TEN slides.

REMEMBER! You must also give credit to the sources who provided you the information that you use in your presentation and put the information on each PowerPoint slide.
